This is true, or TRUE – as founder Randy Casingham calls his newsletter – is an email newsletter that uses "strange news" as a means to explore the human condition in an entertaining way.

TRUE's mission is to provoke more thinking in the world. Each issue contains stories of people who have not thought, sometimes with funny results, which are completed by a short commentary on each story. It's a caustic social commentary that deals with the human condition, but is entertaining for reading to be fun.

However, creating good content isn't enough – you also need to figure out how to get paid for it. Cassingham actually refused two syndication contracts to get TRUE in newspapers because he thought the future was online and the newspapers would suffer in the long run.

He chose the path of self-publishing and identified a publication platform with all the tools he needed for both publishing and advertising: email.

Content creators need options that go beyond a blog platform. “It's very difficult to monetize a blog. Developers need tools that provide a gateway to reach paying customers.
